Minimalist Renovation

The SMART25 project concerns a minimalist renovation for a client's family home that is approximately 100 years old. From its inception, the house lacked the necessary conditions for comfortable living. We therefore commenced work on the layout and made changes to the utilities.

The design was based on the principle of optimizing the use of available space, which resulted in the creation of several zones, including an entrance hall, two bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room, a work area and a bedroom.

The entrance area is visually expanded by a fully mirrored wall with a door to the bathroom. The upper part of the bathroom walls are constructed from glass blocks. A row of glass blocks is placed above the wardrobe, creating the impression that they are built above it, but in fact, there is a reliable metal frame under them. It was even possible to fit a full bed. The kitchen is equipped with all necessary appliances. A bar counter separates the cooking area from the living room. In the living room, we placed a comfortable sofa and a table that can be transformed to provide additional seating if it`s necessary. There is a workplace next to the TV cabinet.

The concept was inspired by the ideas of constructivism, as the house itself was built in this period. Therefore, clear minimalist geometric shapes, glass blocks, small tiles and other attributes of this style were introduced. We retained the rounded ceiling, which was typical for that part of time, to emphasize the authenticity of the room. We also restored the lamp, and thus left a native element in the renovated space.  The materials were chosen from the budget segment, but not at the expense of practicality and durability. No disposable furniture was used, as this is the key to the reasonable use of resources.
