The designer managed to design a cozy, comfortable, and not trendy interior space that is convenient and pleasant to live in, and this was the main goal.
Customers and tasks
The designer's parents are a mature couple, the owner is 58 years old, and the owner is 63 years old. The wife teaches at the university, and the husband is in business. They love walks, theaters and exhibitions, fishing. The couple bought this apartment in the center of Tula for temporary stays in the city. And they entrusted the interior design to their daughter, designer Ekaterina Zharkova, co-founder of the Interior Architecture studio.
"The main task was to create a feeling of air, space and spring mood. We gave preference to the kitchen-living room, and the other zones could be compact, but maximally functional, while it was necessary to use the area to the maximum. Organize zones for sleeping, rest, for receiving guests, as well as a dressing room - everything that is needed for a comfortable, convenient and beautiful life. Sometimes grandchildren stay, it was necessary to provide for the apartment to be convenient for them," says Ekaterina.
Redevelopment
Initially, the apartment had one room with separate bathroom and toilet, dressing room, kitchen and loggia. Ekaterina suggested redevelopment. They removed the partition between the kitchen and the room, refused the developer's dressing room, combined the bathroom with the toilet. The bedroom was organized in the place of the former dressing room and part of the room, separated from the common space by a glass sliding partition . The glass is ribbed, it is much easier to care for. The dressing room was built at the expense of the area of the room and partially the hallway, playing with the supporting column.
The new layout made great use of the large hallway, turning it into a compact, comfortable and isolated space. And also to organize a spacious common area without sacrificing the bedroom. An office was made on the loggia.
Finishing
The main wall finish is paint. The floor is covered with engineered wood . Wallpaper with a picture of dandelions was chosen for the wall at the head of the bed - the owners chose this wallpaper before the renovation began, they really liked it.
Patterned tiles were used to decorate the hallway floor.
In the bathroom, porcelain stoneware with a terrazzo pattern was chosen as a background, and for the accent, textured small-format tiles in a dusty pink color were laid in a herringbone pattern in the sink area.
As for the color, the background was light gray. It seems like a simple solution, but in reality it was difficult to find the right color — Ekaterina recalls that seven paint samples were needed. Pink and blue were chosen as accents — they were used in textiles and furniture.
The hallway became completely blue. In this way, they decided to set the tone for the interior right from the start. By the way, the blue paint matches the color of the pattern on the floor tiles. There are also green accents. For example, the pistachio color of the kitchen facades and the loggia walls in a deeper green shade. The loggia floor is laid with patterned tiles.
Furniture and storage systems
Ekaterina managed to think through the maximum of storage systems without cluttering up a small apartment. Seasonal items, outerwear and shoes, household items can be stored in the dressing room. In the hallway, a hanger with a bench was provided - to hang jackets and sit down to change shoes, put a bag. And also a shoe rack.
In the living room there is a bookcase and a cabinet with closed and open sections for books, a chest of drawers-bar, which has become a kind of exhibition area.
The bedroom has a built-in wardrobe for everyday clothes and bed linen. There is also space under the bed (it has a lifting mechanism), and for small items - bedside tables.
The kitchen set turned out to be very roomy. It is angular, columns are provided for built-in appliances, while there is still space for storage in them. And the upper cabinets are made up to the ceiling, the mezzanine part is intended for those things that are not needed constantly.
The bathroom has a utility cabinet with a washing machine and shelves for storing supplies of detergents, and a spacious cabinet under the sink.
Lighting
Ekaterina set herself the task of creating general bright lighting and at the same time highlighting each zone separately. And so it turned out. Spotlights and chandeliers were used as general lighting. Additional scenarios were thought out in the form of a pendant over the dining table, a sconce by the bed and over the sofa, hidden lighting.
