At the beginning of each year, global trend agencies, experts, and designers present their analysis of trends in the design world. Thus, the New York Design Center named four main trends: environmental friendliness, brightness, maximalism, and eclecticism - each point seems to complement the previous one, connecting with the next and not excluding the possibility of using all interior trends of 2024 at the same time.
Interior Trends 2024 - Colors
More than 90% of respondents predict that brown will become a popular color in the coming year. “In 2024, we will continue to see a trend away from gray shades and towards brown, earthy colors in textiles and furniture,” says DuVäl Design. Alexis Pew of Kaminski+Pew also shares her opinion: “Minimalism has evolved into a less austere look. Warm, textured spaces with natural materials in darker, earthier palettes will be in demand. We're moving away from whites and grays towards creams, browns, rusts, and muted greens."
Beauty is Abundant founder Leah Alexander believes 2024 will be the year to invest in bright colors: “I see gray and white kitchens and endless beige bouclé losing their relevance and giving way to rich and bold color combinations " By the way, the controversy about the booklet continues. According to the New York Design Center, opinions remain divided on the fate of bouclé in 2024: 54.5% of designers believe the material has lost its relevance, but the rest disagree.
Another trend in the color palette is the elegant chartreuse green shade. “Chartreuse is a bold, energetic color that I've loved for as long as I can remember,” says designer Tara McCauley. — Now he is experiencing his finest hour in interior design and fashion. The main thing is to avoid neon shades.”
“A break from technology” is what experts from the New York Design Center called the next trend. Designer Noz Nozav comments on it: “The harsh blue light and bright touch screens that light up when you walk past them at night are starting to give way to mechanical controls: good old buttons and switches.”
Spectacular kitchen hoods
Hood vents are often an afterthought in the kitchen design process, but in 2024 they will receive special attention. “We'll see bolder designs—strong textures on the hood, like plaster or wood grains,” says New York-based designer Hilary Matt.
Frescoes
Frescoes are a long-lasting trend, but this time designers are proposing to use them in the most unexpected places. “You'll see murals popping up in the lobby and stairwells,” comments Andre Hilton of Jordan Hilton Interiors. - No more boring stairwells. They deserve the same attention as every other room in the house. It's meant to be a journey from one floor to the next, and this trend is sure to make people fall in love with every inch of their home."
Environmental friendliness and innovative materials
Although designers and clients have long strived for informed material selection, today it has become an overarching goal. Design duo Joel Wong and Amanda Gunawan of OWIU Design expect an increase in the use of sustainable materials in both design and construction. The fashion for environmental friendliness and natural materials will be supported by living indoor plants, wallpaper and wall coverings with floral patterns.
Eclecticism and individuality
According to designer Kerry Pilczyk, 2024 will be the year when decor with character and history will come first. Interiors will become more eclectic as people are more likely to use antiques and items that have been passed down through generations. “Everyone is already tired of minimalism,” comments designer and artist Luke Edward Hall. — I always want to add more color, more objects, more details. I love layered interiors. The interior is a bit like how you dress. It reveals your interests and tastes - it's another form of self-expression. I love the idea of creating little universes and telling stories through objects.”
