BYRÓ Architekti designed a private, minimalist pavilion that will be the perfect place for privacy. It is built on the site of a dilapidated cottage near Prague and resembles a ship's cabin. In a small area of only 20 square meters, architects Jan Holub and Tomáš Hanus managed to fit a significant number of functional elements.

The height of the structure allowed the mezzanine of the second tier to be used as a place to spend the night during the warm season. “When the owners have a garden, they try to spend as much time as possible outdoors,” Golub and Hanus report. “They came to us with a specific and perhaps slightly paradoxical task: it was necessary to build a new structure on the site of an old cottage, but at the same time, the fundamental request was to leave direct access to the garden. So that it would be an extension of the interior.”

The pavilion's façade is a door, window and wall all at once, and the mobile panel can also be used as a shading canopy. Made of wood and polycarbonate, it is equipped with all the cables and counterweights for easy use by one person. The other part of the façade is formed by dark charred wood shou-sugi-ban, which contrasts with the light plaster and light wood of the interior. "In this way, the interior flows smoothly onto the street, and the garden penetrates into the building," say the architects.

All major structural elements in the home, including the storage system, staircase, and mezzanine, are made of wood. The pavilion does not include any modern amenities, except for basic electric lighting on the roof. The project is designed on an old foundation, and other buildings and sheds remain on the clients' property. The new pavilion adds character to this private outdoor space near the banks of the Vltava River.
