Minimalism doesn’t have to mean bare walls and cold spaces. In this cleverly designed 37 m2 apartment, minimalism is reimagined as something warmer, smarter, and more livable. Every square meter is thoughtfully used, proving that even the smallest of spaces can feel open, functional, and full of character. If you’ve grown tired of the typical minimalist look, this home might just inspire a new way to simplify, without sacrificing comfort or style.
Customers and tasks
These apartments were purchased for investment purposes – for rent. It was necessary to highlight the property against the background of others, to create a functional interior with a minimalist design. Designer Danilya coped with this task.
Redevelopment
The original layout of the apartment is classic for the modern real estate market – a kitchen-living room, a small bedroom, and a bathroom. Danilya suggested a small redevelopment. So, part of the area from the kitchen-living room was “taken” for a dressing room with a laundry function. The entrance to the bedroom was moved to make the passage to the kitchen-living room more spacious. A partition was added to build a wardrobe in the bedroom.
Finishing
Light sand-colored paint was chosen for the walls. In the hallway, the wall with the door to the dressing room was completely decorated with mirrors to visually increase the space of the small room.
The floor in the living room and bedroom is covered with engineered wood — the designer explains the choice by the good heat and sound insulation properties of the flooring, as well as the coziness that natural wood creates in the interior. The kitchen and hallway have the same sand-colored porcelain stoneware.
In the bathroom, marble-like porcelain stoneware with beige veins was combined with moisture-resistant mustard-colored paint. Due to the fact that even the ceiling was painted in this color, the bathroom turned out to be very intimate and cozy.
Furniture and storage systems
At the planning stage, a dressing room was specially allocated to free up space from large wardrobes. The dressing room can be used to store everyday clothes, seasonal items, and also houses a washing machine and dryer.
The bedroom has a built-in wardrobe for everyday clothes. Minimalistic facades in the color of the walls were made intentionally so that the storage system does not visually clutter the space.
The accent element of the bedroom is a terracotta console that turns into a work table (or a dressing table, it can be used in different ways).
Terracotta also appears in the hallway, where there is a bookcase and decor. Structurally, the bookcase is part of the kitchen set, it stands at the end, but functionally it belongs to the entrance area.
The kitchen itself turned out to be compact. It is a linear set with mezzanines, an oven and a dishwasher are built into the lower cabinets, and a refrigerator is built into the column.
Instead of a dining table, there is a bar counter. One of the counter’s supports is a kitchen cabinet, which serves as additional storage space.
In the living room, there is a tall chest of drawers where you can store books and documents, a soft modular sofa, and a futuristic side table in the main accent color of the interior – terracotta – serves as an accent.
The storage systems in the bathroom include a cabinet under the sink, a cabinet above the installation, and a built-in shelf between the bathtub and the installation.
Lighting
The general lighting scenario is minimalist built-in lamps and tracks. Above the bar counter is a laconic linear pendant, and on the wall next to it is a sconce. The same sconce is placed in the hallway. In the bedroom, for additional lighting, there are sconces on both sides of the bed. In the bathroom, there is a pendant by the mirror, but also many hidden lights: ceiling, shelves, rack.
